As a member of our Housing Team, we are looking for a highly motivated individual to help our most vulnerable clients with high complex needs. You must be able to provide an exceptional housing advice service to applicants and tenants to secure accommodation under the current housing legislation.
You will approve housing applicants’ eligibility for housing. Within Swindon’s Housing Allocations policy, you will assist with the overall objectives for the team and for the wider council and will require a good understanding of the main legislative framework within Housing and Adult Social Care.
Being the main point of contact for Social Care colleagues, you will facilitate meetings with Social Care and Housing Providers to establish priority and suitability of applicants for Learning Disability supported accommodation, Extra Care, adapted homes, pathway accommodation and sheltered housing. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring cases required for hospital discharge are resolved by identifying suitable social housing or referral to Extra care; enabling people to move on from temporary accommodation as quickly as possible.
You will be able to demonstrate resilience and the ability to priortise and manage competing demands, extracting and interpreting information to make decisions within set guidelines without supervision. The successful candidate will require strong organisational skills to succeed in this role.
As a conscientious individual you will have exceptional capability to communicate with others. These skills will be utilised through interviewing and assessing applicants and tenants in their own homes and office interviews and presenting to a range of people including at senior level. You will also use your excellent communication skills to provide training to Social Care colleagues and facilitating meetings with Social Care and various Housing Providers.
You will be highly competent in using various IT packages including databases, spreadsheets and word processing with experience of report writing. The ability to work to tight deadlines and work on own initiative is essential.
With GCSE’s in Maths and English or equivalent, you will have a minimum of three years’ experience of public interaction and considerable experience of working with vulnerable people. Experience of working in housing or a similar environment is essential. In addition, an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Housing or Social Care or related field would be preferable.
Experience of lone working is required and you will hold a current driving licence and have the ability to travel throughout the Borough. An enhanced DBS disclosure will be required.
Candidates must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).
