Salary: £32,330 p.a. pro rata
Closing date: 13/08/2020
Job reference: L73-A-20-0400

Swindon Borough Council has an exciting opportunity to work as part of the Public Health team to improve infant feeding practices at a population level. Your role as a job-share Infant Feeding Coordinator will focus on implementing the local infant feeding strategy, in order to improve the health and wellbeing of babies and their mothers.
A key focus will be to jointly lead on the continued implementation and maintenance of United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) programme in the local community.
You will work closely with a wide range of partners to improve infant feeding practices including across the local STP area (Swindon, Wiltshire and Bath and North East Somerset). You will be involved with local programme planning and evaluation, provide infant feeding training to a range of professionals and non-professionals, practical skills reviews, audit of staff and mothers, ensuring achievement of BFI accreditation targets, and providing specialist infant feeding advice to health professionals and a small number of mothers.
We are participating in a healthy living research programme in early years settings with Bristol University, which we hope will start in Spring 2021 for a year, but it may be put on hold due to coronavirus restrictions. This would involve 0.5 to 1day per week work for one year, which the post holder would undertake as part of this role, within their allocated hours. It will involve following set protocols. All training and support for this role will be provided.
This is a permanent post for 18 hours per week, as part of a job-share, for a suitably qualified Health Visitor. Initial starting salary, for those who do not have an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant qualification or equivalent, is £32,330 per annum (Local Authority Q grade or NHS band 6). This will increase to £38,000 per annum on completion of the Lactation Consultant qualification or for those who already have this qualification or equivalent.
