60 seconds with... Di Powell

How long have you been with inSwindon BID?

I celebrated 5 years with inSwindon BID on 29th June, the time has flown by.

Tell us a bit about a typical day in the life for Di?

The role of a BID is very diverse, so rarely are 2 days the same. Essentially if you count all of our levy payers, we have almost 500 bosses! Therefore, ensuring that the projects and themes in the BID mandate are being delivered on time and within budget, are priority, whilst ensuring a return on investment.

I enjoy walking the BID area with our Street team, Swindon Borough Council and strategic partners, whilst popping in to talk to our members. Meeting with our Directors, key stakeholders, industry peers, and of course other BIDs, enables me to see and hear about what is happening first hand in order for us represent and provide a voice for our members on key issues.

What’s your next challenge at the BID?

We are mid-term in this BID period. So, we're thinking about the current challenges facing High Street retail and the change of use of buildings to residential dwellings. We need to understand how the BID can help to support and manage this change, whilst we continue to improve the local economic environment and raise positive perceptions of the town centre.

The next two and half years will no doubt fly by, so we are constantly evaluating and improving communication and engagement to deeper understand the needs of our levy payers, the changing landscape to ensure that we are well placed to offer the best support and make the BID area the best it can be.

An interesting fact about you:

I was once in a Progressive Rock band and still enjoy being a bit of Karaoke Diva on holiday!
