Brunel Trolley TT races into Swindon town centre

Brunel Trolley TT races into Swindon town centre

Quick-thinking and creative businesses are being challenged to put their pedal to the metal and take part in Swindon’s first Trolley TT for the Youth Adventure Trust.

The Brunel Trolley TT is a trolley push with a difference, testing design flair, navigation skills and a little bit of athleticism.  Teams of up to six, in optional fancy dress, will go head to head on Thursday 11 May at 6 pm for charitable glory, as well as for the Brunel Trolley TT Champions Trophy.

On the evening, teams will be provided with a trolley to decorate and challenged to complete a mission by trolley visiting some of Swindon Town Centre’s key landmarks, all in just two hours.  Points will be awarded for completing each part of the mission and prizes will be awarded for the team with the most points, as well as for the best-dressed trolley, the best-dressed team and the most sponsorship raised.

Organised by The Brunel shopping centre, the event will be raising money for the Youth Adventure Trust.  This Swindon-based charity works with vulnerable young people aged 11 – 14 across Swindon and Wiltshire supporting their development through learning outdoors. Their approach of early intervention through residential camps and day activities, starting at age 11, successfully equips young people with the hope, confidence, skills and resilience that will last a lifetime.

The Youth Adventure trust was set up 25 years ago by Sir David Hempleman-Adams and Major Richard Mitchell, both well known for their record breaking Arctic, Antarctic and mountain climbing expeditions, and has helped over 3,800 young people by providing more than 27,000 activity days.

Jane Stewart, Deputy Manager of The Brunel, said: “We are proud to support the work that the Youth Adventure Trust does with our local young people as is so vital and has a lasting effect throughout the rest of their lives.

“So if you think you have what it takes to design and decorate an eye-catching trolley and then race it around the town to raise as much money as possible for a great local charity then sign up now.  Spectators and cheerleaders are very welcome to come along on the night too and we will be holding a prize-giving ceremony in the centre afterwards.

Mark Davey, Chief Executive of the Youth Adventure Trust added: “We have used outdoor adventure to improve the lives of over 3,800 vulnerable young people across Swindon and Wiltshire. Our programme, which lasts three school years, is completely free of charge to the young people.  However, it costs us £3,300 for each place.  We get no government funding and so it is only through fundraising events like The Brunel Trolley TT that we can continue working with our younger generations to show them what they can achieve if they believe in themselves.”

Entry to The Brunel Trolley TT costs £12 per person, with a maximum of six people per team.  Visit www.thebrunel.co.uk to enter or emailphilippa@youthadventuretrust.org.uk"> philippa@youthadventuretrust.org.uk.
