The Duchess of Cornwall will be visiting the town on Thursday 20 October to mark Swindon 175 and officially name ‘Sir Daniel Gooch Place’ in front of Swindon railway station.

The ceremony at 11am will see Her Royal Highness unveil a specially designed nameplate honouring the man who is regarded as the father of New Swindon. We wanted to give Sir Daniel Gooch the recognition he deserves; what better place to do this but at the gateway to the town.

“For The Duchess of Cornwall to accept our invitation is absolutely wonderful. Swindon has so much to be proud of, and for Her Royal Highness to share this important day is a fantastic tribute the man who put us firmly on the map.”

The public are invited to attend the event at Sir Daniel Gooch Place. However there will be traffic disruption in the area around the railway station between 10.45am and midday.

Swindon175 marks the anniversary of the birth of new Swindon when construction began on the Great Western Railway’s locomotive repair shed. Supported by sponsors and Swindon Borough Council and managed by Business West, 2016 has seen a wide range of events which has involved Swindon’s people and businesses in a celebration of the town’s rich heritage and achievements.
