Job Vacancy - Swindon Town Centre Ambassador Team Leader

inSwindon Business Improvement District (BID) is a business led initiative for Swindon Town Centre. Following a successful third term the BID will manage a £2.7m budget allocated over five years to deliver improvements to Swindon town centre, this is a great opportunity to play a significant role in making the town even more welcoming and vibrant.

Full Time, five-year contract until March 2022.

The Ambassadors scheme is one of the BID's flagship projects and we are looking to recruit an experienced Team Leader to provide leadership to the team of Ambassadors who patrol the BID area daily, liaising directly with businesses, local authority and partner agencies.

The primary role will be to provide the coordination and line management for the team of Ambassadors as well as fulfilling an Ambassador’s role, liaise directly with businesses located within the BID to ensure the town centre operates effectively and that any operational issues are resolved quickly.  This will include visiting BID businesses on a daily basis, and ensure that each levy payer is receiving the services provided the BID (eg cleanliness & maintenance, security, marketing & promotion, business support and communication etc).

The purpose also includes assisting in environmental monitoring and safety of the BID area, to be the eyes and ears on the street regarding early warnings, initiating responses and enforcement initiatives.  Ambassadors will work closely with the local authority in terms of identifying street cleanliness and highway issues, and with Police and crime and safety partners to identify, report and act as a deterrent to any anti-social behaviour, unlawful trading, begging and potential criminally activity. 

The aim of the Ambassador role is to improve the visitor experience providing a helpful, welcoming and informative source of information including way finding, place of interest and to be aware of the changing town centre.

Skills, Experience and Abilities You should be able to demonstrate:

  • A passion for Swindon
  • Experience in a busy customer service environment, preferably in a team leader and supervisory capacity.
  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to inspire others and lead by example.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage own busy workload and co-ordinate/task others within the service.
  • Ability to follow procedures and policies and to demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective listening and observational skills with an ability to deal with sensitive and confidential matters on occasion.
  • Ability to work with equality, integrity and fairness in dealing with customers, businesses and team members.
  • Confidence in recording information and producing written reports/responses as required using Microsoft Office and other systems provided.
  • To be available and undertake training and other supervisory duties as required by the post.

This role is for 37.5 hours per week on a shift rota basis which includes evenings and weekends.
